Why Do Alcoholics and Addicts Exist?

You can end the cycle of relapse.
[photo-vsAlt]Many frustrated loved-ones have asked: “Why does God allow the disease of alcoholism and addiction to exist?”   Or alternatively: “Why hasn’t natural selection eliminated this disease?”   If you have had thoughts like this, you are not a bad person.   Just a frustrated person with a sick loved-one.

Why Recovery Is Important

You’ve probably heard this before, but some of the most intelligent and creative people on this planet have had (or currently have) problems with alcoholism and drug addiction.   What would our lives be like without the intelligence and creativity they have shared with us? It is hard to imagine life without the innovations they have provided society.   How can society get more innovations and creativity?   I would suggest that if we had more of these people in recovery, the world would have even more innovations and creativity.

Two Personalities

Have you noticed that your loved-one seems to be like two different people: the first, a wonderful person that is great to have around and the second, a self-absorbed, almost self-destructive individual that tells you one lie after another.   That second person even lies to themselves.   Sometimes we refer to these lies as delusions.

The disease of active alcoholism and active addiction only gets worse over time.   It never gets better without outside help.   Sometimes we can see improvements but it is a “one step forward” and “two steps back”, progressive disease.   The “one step forward” provides us hope but the “two steps back” disappoints us over and over again.   As the loved-one of an alcoholic and addict, do you ever wonder how many times you must observe the repeat of that pattern before you finally give up?   The path of self-destruction that active alcoholic and active drug addict travels is a slow, painful, progressively deteriorating path. And without outside help, their story always end badly.

Would you like to help your loved-one transition from these two personalities to only one personality, the first person described above?   Your loved-one has not been able to do it by himself. You have not been able to do help him.   Reading material has not worked.   Lectures have not worked.

A Better Life in Recovery!

We believe that an alcoholic or addict who lives in recovery can have a life that far exceeds the life of a non-alcoholic or so called normal person.   We do not try to change your loved-one into a normal person.   Others try to do that and it never works for more than a short period of time.

We allow your loved-one to experience recovery and through their own efforts here at our facility with some guidance from men who have gone through that experience themselves.   Your loved-one will become an alcoholic or addict who lives in recovery.   They can and will have permanent recovery (one day at a time).   They will enjoy all the intelligence and creativity that they were born to enjoy.   But they will not suffer the self-destruction of active alcoholism and addiction.
